SUMMARY:An Art Therapy Event – A Virtual Twistshop From Twist Out Cancer in October
DESCRIPTION:“Virtual Twistshops” are wellness and art therapy focused workshops that promote healing\, relaxation\, and emotional recovery through creative based intervention. Topics change each time. \n“Curio Cards”\nIn this Twistshop we will be constructing “curio” or curiosity cards. Traditionally\, curio cabinets hold objects that memorialize themes important to the creator and are displayed in a purposeful manner. Today we are combining this concept with the “calling card\,” a custom that originated in 18th c. England\, where pictures and heartfelt messages were inscribed on the back of repurposed playing cards and then given away. The goal of this art practice will be to create curio cards (meant to be kept or given away) that reflect on the topic of honoring someone or something important to the creator. \nThis Twistshop will be facilitated by Sherry Warner\, MFA\, MA\, ATR-BC\nSherry is a creative facilitator and board certified art therapist living and working in southern New Jersey. She practices using art in her own life and with others as a way to engage in mindful self compassion and exploration. She is influenced by sociocultural themes and oftentimes uses alternative and found materials in visual art practices. Sherry’s work is based on a trauma-informed model that puts emphasis on the mind-body connection and using art viewing and doing as an integral part of managing life’s stressors. \nSuggested materials:\nSmall pieces of cardboard\njewelry boxes\,\nplaying cards for repurposing\,\nscissors\,\nglue\,\npaint markers\, oil pastels\npre-cut imagery or photographs for repurposing\,\npen/sharpie or other writing utensils\nand colored paper for collaging. \nSuggested Donation $5-$10 to help us continue to provide programming for our community. \nAny questions\, please contact jacqueline@twistoutcancer.org

SUMMARY:Twist Out Cancer's Northeast Brushes with Cancer Art Exhibition & Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Brushes with Cancer provides psycho-social support for those touched by cancer to improve the quality of life for cancer patients\, their family\, and loved ones\, through a unique art experience. \nBrushes with Cancer strategically matches artists with those touched by cancer to create unique pieces of artwork reflective of their journey. Over a period of 5 months\, pairs will connect virtually and their relationships are guided and supported by Twist Out Cancer mentors with the intention of creating a support system for both the artist and inspiration. The program finishes on a high note with our signature celebratory art exhibition\, gala and auction where the artwork is revealed for the first time. Due to the nature of the pandemic all Brushes with Cancer programs will be held virtually with the hope of being able to gather in the near future. \nWe invite you to join the TOC community and guests for an evening of celebration\, storytelling\, survivorship\, and hope. During the celebration\, each artist’s piece will be officially revealed and auctioned\, with proceeds benefitting the mission and work of Twist Out Cancer. \nThe Northeast Brushes with Cancer program includes 49 participants\, plus 8 mentors\, from 14 states across the U.S.\, plus Bavaria\, Mexico\, and Ireland. Tickets for the celebration can be found at: www.TwistOutCancer.org/brushes/northeast2021

SUMMARY:The H Foundation "Karting for Cancer"
DESCRIPTION:Karting for Cancer is a competitive fundraising event to make a difference in the fight against cancer! You and your team will compete against others in not 1 but 2 challenges – the team that raises the most for basic science cancer research and the fastest team in our high-speed go kart race! Will your team be 1st place overall? SIGN UP TODAY! \nThis fast paced race\, which will be held on the newly renovated Autobahn Country Club karting course\, will last 2 hours. This will be a professional grade\, high performance racing experience! Your team will be driving go carts that can reach speeds of up to 55mph as you race around a half mile track. No experience is needed\, and helmets will be provided for all drivers. There will be 15 karts/teams competing in the race. All teams will rotate karts throughout the race to minimize the impact of equipment differences. Each team will also experience pit stops to add to the excitement and adventure of the experience. A minimum age of 16 is required to be a driver\, and drivers under the age of 18 will need to have a notarized waiver signed. \nBut wait… there’s more! By raising the most money prior to the Karting for Cancer Race\, your team will receive pole position and your choice of Karting for Cancer go-kart. All other teams will start based upon fundraising total (starting position 2 – 15) and will be assigned a go-kart for the race instead of choosing their kart of choice. \nAutobahn Country Club is the Midwest’s Premier Motorsports Club featuring Road Racing\, Karting\, Driver Training and a full featured Events Venue. \nSign up a team\, make a donation\, join us as a spectator or sponsor… help make a difference in cancer research!
